I dealt with Ivan G for my automobile move. He was always responsive and communicated often. He was the first to call from the internet query, and from the very first conversation, I felt he was competent and knowledgeable.
Having a prior nightmare of needing a vehicle transported from Florida to California, AND having a horrible end result, I was very leery. I told Ivan I had just posted the query, and wanted to get some more feedback from other companies. I called him back and told him about the pressure I was getting from other brokers. He said I was in control and not allow myself to feel forced into anything.
STTC did not offer the lowest price, but I had read that companies often hold the vehicle for "ransom" to get extra money at drop off. I figured you get what you pay for. I was not in a huge rush to have the car picked up or delivered.
My car was assigned to a transporter, and I paid the deposit. Ivan and I thought all was well, because the owner of the carrier communicated often. He kept telling me the truck broke down or a driver quit, or this and that, until almost a month later, after numerous excuses, the carrier breached the contract. Ivan was back on the case and in a few days made arrangements with a WONDERFUL carrier who picked up the car in TN on Tuesday and dropped off to me on Thursday, 2 days later.
So, I am confused by the "F" rating on BBB. I searched "auto carrier reviews" and found transportreviews.com, which had over 250 reviews for Smart Talk. They are not all glowing, but the good to excellent reviews are almost 20 to 1 over the bad.
Auto transport is not the same as UPS or the post office, and if you don't have experience, it's hard to know what to expect. There should be a tutorial or "Auto Transport Customer Expectations for Dummies" book or website for us.
Ivan explained it quite well. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS! You'll be glad you did.
