I got quotes from 23 different shippers to ship a car from Illinois to Connecticut, ranging from $495 to $990. Wheeler Shipping was in the mid-range at $700. The consistently good reviews on this website convinced me to call them. Sue Wheeler answered the phone and explained the entire process. When I asked why I should pay more to go with her company, she said that the higher price would make it more likely that a trucker would be interested in picking up my vehicle when I needed it to happen. She was very friendly and patiently answered all my questions. I paid Mrs. Wheeler's $200 scheduling fee using Paypal.

The week before my last pick-up date, Mrs. Wheeler called me in Illinois to say that she had good news: a trucker could come a few days early. I was relieved, because now I would be able to see the car loaded in plenty of time before I had to fly home. A driver called to say that he would be there the next day. He said he would arrive before noon, but arrived around 3:00 PM. He was driving a new Dodge Ram pick-up with a two-car open trailer. A beautiful restored 1964 Mustang was on the trailer -- it was reassuring to see a car worth more than my own already on board. Mupale (from Zambia!) was polite, professional, and well-spoken. He filled out the form accurately: the car has a few dings, and he noted these, without exaggerating the damage. I took digital photos of him with the car, showing all sides of the vehicle, and e-mailed these to my husband, who was waiting for the car in Connecticut. Mupale left Illinois at 3:30 PM, estimating that he would arrive in Connecticut by the following afternoon.

At 4:00 PM the next day, my husband called to say that a nice young man had just delivered the car. He compared the car with the "before" photos, noted no new damage, and so he paid Mupale $500 in cash and got a receipt.

It has been six days since the car arrived. Today, Mrs. Wheeler called to ask how it went, both with the car shipment and with my trip to Illinois. She remembered everything I had told her two weeks ago. I really like it when people follow through. We may have paid more than we needed to for car transport, but at a stressful time, the peace of mind is worth it. I would highly recommend Wheeler Shipping. Sue Wheeler really cares about her customers and delivers great service. Call her!
