My shipment was from OH to WA. Upon calling around Shipwit provided the best price I could find and I went ahead and choose them. $200 down with a $750 COD. The explanation of the process was confusing and communication before the deposit was consistent and they were happy to answer any questions that I had.
After making the deposit communication became near non-existent. I was able to get my agent on the phone where I voiced my concerns about the timing of the shipment and if they could guarantee that my vehicle would be picked up ( Unaware that they rely on bids from carriers and have no control other than just advertising it ), the agents response to this was "well you made the deposit".
My main concern as that I was trying to get updates on my shipment. Which they eventually just started ignoring. I wasn't till I spoke to another company which was able to pull up my shipment on the dispatch board, did I understand how any of this worked. This was where they were able to explain to me that they had listed the price of my vehicle for $800 ( Instead of the original $750 ). They also provided a plethora of similar shipments to my vehicle with similar distances. To which they were able to give me average pricing which was $950-1000. They then offered to have it done for $1,000 with a $200 broker fee. However I was unable to accept that as I was unable to get any response about getting a refund from Shipwit.
Eventually the 2nd day of my pickup timeline came around and they told me they had an offer for $1,000 to pick up my car. So in the end, I could've saved a headache and had someone actually tell me what was going on for the same price I paid in the end.
My recommendation? Go with a more reputable carrier, don't put a deposit down before having a carrier, and retain your sanity especially if you are handling a cross country move like myself. If you guys need more information about this I am happy to provide receipts from emails and text messages.
