San Jose to Atlanta 2 cars: no deposit before carrier assigned

You need to do the research to understand car shipping business. Safe-Direct can help you there. After that it is very straight forward: get an agent (Chris was extremely helpful), agree on reasonable amount which will get your car shipped and on the dates you want to. If you go too cheap, it might not happen and not at the Safe-Direct or any other agent fault, as none of the carriers will take the job.
Cars were picked-up on time, came in one (2 as I had 2 cars) piece, paid the rest and that was it.
Deposit paid only after actual carrier got assigned and that could be few days flexible. Please read my next review, I paid deposit after car was 2 days on the road. (don’t tell Chris I said it).
Not sure if you can get an actual carrier to take the car without any deposit, it will only mean you will have to spend days and days searching for one or to pay a fee to get on dispatch board.
Make the long story short, 6 days after receiving the cars in Atlanta (Norcorss) I had to ship one of the cars back. I drove cross-country with my stuff and second car on the trailer. I gave Chris 2 day’s notice and he arranged the carrier which came on time and the car is on the way to San Jose (in Long Beach CA right now).
It is horrifying, stressful, painful experiences to move and to ship your house and cars. But for 50-70$ more you can have at least some piece of quiet. Chris always answers messages, calls back and tries to help.
Stay tune for next review. Knock on wood 3 times, I’ll see my GTI on Thursday in San Jose.
