The dealer I purchased my new Mercedes from is in San Francisco. I live in Florida. I had to get my newly purchased car shipped to me. I did my research and found that National Transport has had consistent 5-star reviews. Since I paid for shipping in the purchase price of the vehicle, I asked the dealer to contact National Transport to arrange for shipping.
The dealer called them at 2:30pm PST on a Tuesday. The car was picked up by the driver at 6:30pm that same day at the dealer's lot. I don't know if this was a normal thing or not but wow... the car was picked up in 4 hours! National Transport had secured a driver and everything in that time, and kept in constant contact with me via email. They even called me to tell me personally when the driver was scheduled to be picking up the car. I got a text message from my dealer later that evening that it was indeed picked up.
Now the waiting game starts... scheduled window upon pickup was the following Wed-Fri. I submitted a couple of inquiries through their website to check on the progress - each time, a response was given to me within a few hours. They gave me the driver's cell number so I can contact him directly if I wished. I didn't want to bother him as I am sure people hound him all the time for updates. I gave in and finally texted him a friendly message explaining who this was and what car was mine, just looking for a revised delivery window about 5 days after pickup.
The driver calls me directly within minutes, and was extremely friendly and pleasant! He explained that he was in between Corpus Christi and Houston, and will be delivering the car to me by noon TOMORROW! How he intends to make it from Texas to Florida in one day I will never know. Believe me, I was skeptical.
I made arrangements to meet him at the local truck stop by my house so that it would be super easy for him to get in and out, which he really appreciated. So that very afternoon, my girlfriend and I were across the street from the truck stop having ice cream while we patiently waited for my new car to arrive. Judging by the distance from where he called me last, I would have figured 70 minutes on the highway.
Well, he caught us off-guard as he came down the ramp from the highway about 10 minutes early! We chucked our ice creams and scrambled to get into our car to follow him into the truck stop.
When we got in, he was there, parked, and was about to start to unload my car, which was in the very back, ready to drive off! I inspected it after he carefully drove it off the trailer, with no issues or rubbing of any kind. He showed me the inspection sheet from the pickup, I compared the notes, and did not find a single thing wrong, besides the fact that it was dirty. Not bad though, considering it went cross country just now. Any car will be filthy after that on an open transport.
I signed the paperwork and handed my girlfriend the keys. "See you at home!" I said to her.
Overall, I couldn't be happier with the service. It was exactly as I had expected.
If I ever need to ship a car again, open or enclosed, I will not hesitate to call National Transport, simply due to my experience. I'm so glad I did not go with DAS as the dealer originally suggested.
