WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER! I am writing this review to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Moving On Up moving company. Everything was great in the beginning. I was making a move across 3 states and my company was going to pay for my move. I spoke with a representative at this moving company and he told me everything that I wanted to hear just to get my company to accept their quote. They originally quoted me a price of about $1,000.00 and he said that price included everything from breaking down my furniture, loading it up, driving it to my new location, unpacking it, and reassembly. He also told me that this price included all of the packing and wrapping materials and this price was guaranteed not to go up. My company decided to take this quote because it was the cheapest and because the representative presented such a great bargain.
So now the problems begin…When my job sent the moving company the purchase order, the moving company called me because they had no idea what to do with it. They said that they usually receive their money up front and they tried to get me to ask my job to write the check to me directly so that I could give them the money up front. I told the representative absolutely not! I told him that my job is a reputable establishment and they have policies and procedures that they must follow and that the move has to be paid through a purchase order from my company. This should have been a red flag then because a reputable moving company should know how to handle a purchase order. Nevertheles, we worked things out and the moving company decided to go ahead and do my move knowing that my job would reimburse them once the job was complete. The representative that I had been dealing with up until that point said that he could not give me an official pick up date, but that someone would call me 24 hours in advance to schedule the move. I told him that advance notification was very important because I would be starting my new job and would already be in the new state when they came to get my furniture, so it was imperative that they give me advance notice so that I could arrange for someone to be there when they came. Also, the representative said that since I could not be there, then he would have to email me some paperwork and have me fax it back to him before the move. The week of my move, I still had not heard from the representative about scheduling my pick up or about the paperwork that he was supposed to send me. I called him and left a message and did not get a response. So I called the central office and spoke with a woman there who agreed to email me the paperwork…only she emailed it in a format that was not printable. I called her back and asked her to change the format and resend it, and she agreed to do so, but til this day, I still have not received the paperwork. On the same day that I talked to this woman about the paperwork, I told her that it was only a few days before my move and I need to know when I will hear something about a pick up date. She assured me that a dispatcher would be calling me that evening to schedule something. I never heard from any dispatcher that evening. I got a call the next morning as I was walking into my new job from the mover saying that he was outside my apartment. I was enraged! I asked him why no one called me to schedule anything and I told him that I was not even in the same state because I had already started my new job. He basically told me to work something out because they were on a schedule and could not wait on me. I had to call my apartment complex and fax them written permission to allow the movers to enter my apartment….very inconvenient for me seeing as though it was my first week at my new job and I had to search to find a fax machine. Nevertheless, I was able to work it out and I called him back once the move was completed, and he told me that everything went smoothly and that they did not have any problems.
Problem 1, when I sent my cousin to my apartment a few days after the move to do a final walk through, he informed me that the movers cut my air on to 60 degrees, and left it blasting when they left. Not that I mind that they cut it on, but they cut it on the highest setting possible, and they left it running when they left, so it costs me money. Problem 2, when my furniture arrived at my destination, I realized that the people who they sent to unload were contract movers, and were not employees of Moving On Up. However, the contract movers were very nice and were a pleasure to deal with, but the representatives from Moving On Up guaranteed me that they do the move themselves and do not hire contractors….again, they lied to me! Problem 3, after unloading all of my things, one of the contract movers handed me the final bill to sign…the bill was almost $2,500.00!!!...keep in mind, the original quote was $1,000.00. I was very confused because they actually moved less than what was on the original qupte. I used all of my own packing materials, and I even labeled my own boxes. I only had a one bed room apartment, so I was trying to figure out where the extra charges could have possibly come from, and how could the extra charges be so much??? When I asked the contract mover about the extra charges, he said, “All I do is transport the furniture, I do not handle the bills.” I was perplexed because when I spoke to the representative from Moving On Up who originally picked my furniture up, he told me that everything was fine. He never once mentioned any extra charges. If he had, I would have stopped him immediately and would have chosen another company because all of the other companies were cheaper than $2,500.00. Then, when I made SEVERAL attempts to contact someone from this company to discuss the bill, they just kept passing my call from one person to the next, and no one could tell me why my bill was so high. When I finally spoke to the representative who did the move, all he said was “I am through talking about this” and then he hung up on me. I was still confused because how could he be through talking about it when he NEVER talked to me about it at all. Anyway, my company refused to pay the extra charges because Moving On Up proved to be a bunch of scam artists who tried to get over on me, and til this day, I still have no idea where these extra charges came from…almost $1,500.00 worth of extra charges….maybe because they had to hire contract movers to complete the job and had to figure out a way to still make a profit…who knows?
DON’T use “Moving On Up” moving company for your move! They lied to me from day one just to get my company to accept their quote, and once my company did, the scam unfolded. All of the horror stories that you hear about the scams that these moving companies pull are very true and it happened to me with this company. The next time I move, I will just rent a uhaul and do the move myself. Don’t be fooled by their cheap quotes and their lies.
