Poor Experience – Broker Mismanagement Led to Unauthorized Carrier

I booked Mercury Auto Transport to ship my vehicle from California to New Jersey. Mercury assigned Team Up Trucking LLC as the carrier, but my car was picked up by an entirely different company—US Roads Inc.—which Mercury never disclosed or authorized. All the information Mercury sent me listed Team Up Trucking as the carrier, yet somehow US Roads ended up in possession of my vehicle. Mercury was supportive in the beginning, but ultimately admitted they had no idea how this happened. The US Roads driver arrived late, was rude and unprofessional, and demanded an extra $100 in cash for personal items in my car. Upon delivery, I discovered nearly $1,500 worth of belongings—including designer sunglasses and bags—were missing. To make matters worse, the driver used profanity toward Mercury’s representative. I want to note that the representative I worked with was professional and transparent, and even guided me on how to file a formal complaint. This experience left me with $3,000 in losses and a lot of frustration. Consumers should be aware that Mercury operates as a broker and, in my case, failed to ensure the assigned carrier actually handled my shipment. If you are considering Mercury, ask for complete transparency about who your carrier really will be before entrusting them with your vehicle. To avoid the headache, book elsewhere.

We are very sorry to hear about the frustration you experienced during your transport. We do want to clarify a few important points. Mercury Auto Transport is a licensed broker, and we are always upfront with our customers about that—we do not own or operate trucks. For your order, we specifically arranged and disclosed Team Up Trucking LLC as your carrier, and you were advised to only release your vehicle to that company. Unfortunately, it appears you allowed a different carrier, US Roads Inc., to take possession of your vehicle. This was not authorized by Mercury, and we had no involvement in that substitution. Additionally, as explained during the booking process, car transport services are not designed for moving personal items. While some carriers may allow small items under certain conditions, anything placed inside the vehicle is done entirely at the customer’s own risk. We strongly discourage loading vehicles with personal belongings for exactly the reasons you described. Even so, when this issue came to light, we refunded Mercury’s deposit to you in good faith, despite the fact that the circumstances were outside of our control. We understand how upsetting this experience has been, and we wish things had gone differently. We also encourage future customers to carefully follow the instructions provided to ensure a safe and smooth transport.
