Ship 2020 Escape from MI to CA

I shipped my 2020 Escape from MI to CA. The agreed shipping cost is $1,175 ($300 for broker and $875 for driver). I followed the instruction from the broker to load some personal stuff to the vehicle. When I met with the driver for pickup, he showed very ugly face and said "I can't take your vehicle with what in the vehicle." It was too late for me to find an alternative. I asked "how to resolve the conflict?" The driver responded with "$250 in cash". Because I don't $10 bill, he took $240 to resolve the conflict. The promised delivery date was June 1. The vehicle arrived in CA on June 4. The driver showed me a big smile and said "$875". I'm not sure it is normal to pay the extra $240 or not. I'm happy because my vehicle came to CA soon enough without any damages.

As a broker, our role is to connect customers with reliable carriers. However, we do not have control over the specific charges that carriers may apply for additional items inside the vehicle. According to transportation regulations, vehicles are supposed to be shipped empty. Carriers are charged by weight at weigh stations, and any extra items can result in additional charges. The final decision on these charges is made by the driver at the time of pickup. Unfortunately, our agents are not present during this process, and we cannot influence or predict the additional fees that might be applied. Additionally, it's important to note that any personal items placed inside the vehicle are not covered by insurance. We always recommend customers to ship their vehicles empty to avoid such situations. We hope this clarifies the matter.
