My experience with Magic Carpet Auto Transport was excellent. After requesting multiple online quotes, I was bombarded with quotes ranging from $500-800 and had no way to know who was charging reasonable rates. After seeing Magic Carpet at the top of the list here on Transport Reviews, I decided to give them a call. Richard Mason was my broker and explained the whole process to me very well. Shipping cars is an interesting industry, basically all the quotes you will get are just approximations of how much the job will cost. All those quotes that sound really good in the $500 range are just that, quotes. Basically when you ship a car, your pickup place and desired date gets posted on a national board for truckers to decide whether they can accomodate your load and still make money.

Richard even did a screen share with me online so I could see exactly what was being done, what the price offered to the drivers were, as well as what his broker fee would be. He was able to show me how many trucks were in Iowa that day and how many trucks were in the surrounding states and on top of that could show me what the average rates were that drivers had accepted for similar journeys in the past. I decided to go for it and we posted my job. To my amazement, I had an email the next morning saying a truck could take the job and would be picking up my car soon! I was given the drivers contact info and he kept me posted the whole way. My car was picked up a day early on a Friday evening in Iowa and delivered to me Monday afternoon in Atlanta. Great all around experience.

My lesson learned from this - if you want a smooth, worry free transaction handled by people who know what they're doing, call someone like Richard at Magic Carpet. Don't be cheap when shipping your car either. It's worth an extra couple of hundred bucks for it to handled well. Think like a driver - which car will you put on your trailer with limited space? Obviously the ones paying more money! If I had went with a $500 quote, I'd imagine my car would still be sitting in Iowa with not a truck interested in sight!
