Initially, I thought DAS was great - very helpful on the phone, offered a tracking service owned (some of) their own trucks, long track record. The car was picked up on time on the date they specified at the time they specified. THen it was brought to a local holding center where it stayed for almost three weeks. I called several times during this period and each time I was assured that the car would arrive at or before the specified pick up date. Eventually they conceded that it would not arrive on time that it was the busy season for shipping and that they were having trouble getting space on a truck - which shouldn't be a problem if they owned enough trucks.

Finally, the car was shipped a day or two after the original delivery date. At that point DAS set a new delivery date one week from the original date. Once the vehicle was picked up the tracking function on the website did not work. I called DAS (whose automated answering service is terribly organized) and asked about where our car was and when it could be expected. I was told that a lot of the drivers they use (i.e. contract drivers) are not connected to their tracking system. Ias also told to call back for an update because they cannot call or email me with an update - which four nearly $1400 and with them holding my car over three weeks at this point did not sit well.

The car arrived at the transfer point near us when we were out of town. A driver left a message for me with no call back number and when a called the number from which I received the call he said he was the weekend guy. When the truck was delivered the driver, who was nearly shirtless - unbuttoned all the way down, never even acknowledged me. When he was done he simply said sign here. Then drove off.

So my experience with DAS waas not pleasant. However, after all of this I must say they were better than the two companies we tried to hire before DAS neither of which even showed up. It appears that car shipping is a largely unregulated racket run by unscrupulous scammers. At least DAS maintained some level of professionalism. I don't think I will ever ship a car again - driving is less hassle and cheaper.
