After doing a ton of research on how the process works, on shipping reviews, and comparing price quotes (which many require a pre-payment just for that step). What I learned: ALL AUTO TRANSPORT BROKERS USE A NATIONAL DISPATCH BOARD (Central Dispatch is the gold standard). You hire a transport broker and they use the dispatch board to find you a driver that accepts your desired price. Brokers have no drivers - They exist to put your offer onto the national dispatch board (list of truckers) and to negotiate for you to get an accepted offer. What do the best Auto Transport Brokers need to get you the best result? 1) Ability to move fast with every bid they are working - and no broker payment till they match with a driver! 2) Great modern tech, connecting with the bidder (you) 24 hours a day via email, messaging, and phone. 3) Fully staffed and assigns you a personal shipping coordinator, and organized to have backup when that person isn't working. 2) Shipping coordinators that want to get your car shipped at the best price/timeframe. This means they know how to use the dispatch board and collaborate with you to win a driver. How many trucks in your area looking for cars, what other bids are on on the board and at what price - and experienced to share what they think is needed to win at a fair price. 3) 24 hour customer service for hiccups (eg my truck broke down heading to my car on a saturday - by broker called me before the driver even told me, and told me current situation, what price would likely win (5 cars bidding and their price, 8 slots on trucks in the area now, so priced just below the top bid (I was in a hurry). My bid accepted in 5 min. I highly recommend AmeriFreight. I've used AmeriFreight for one coast to coast and one SFO to SoCal shipping, both like new cars. Their process is transparent and clear, you don't pay their fee until they find a carrier at a price you agree, they use email/messaging and phone calls to stay connected and to move fast once a driver has interest in your bid. You get assigned a coordinator (Samantha was my most recent and is amazing!). She is so bright and savvy - and she wanted us to WIN - at the price and timeframe I wanted. The auto transport broker world is huge - i could become one, so could you. They market on the web, pay for being able to post to the national dispatch board, and bingo. In business. All 5 star brokers are also the biggest in revenue - AmeriFrieght, Montway and Sherpa. Smaller brokers score 4 or lower stars, largely because they can't invest in what is needed to do this well - per the list above.
