Many if the companies made promises over the phone but not in writing; others tried to convince me that if I didn't pay a fortune sleazy companies would raise the price at the last minute. What a relief to find Samantha who explained how the process actually worked - that they were brokers who would get bids on a national board. They would estimate the price, but I paid nothing and was under no commitment until we found a shipper and agreed on all terms. In fact we let the first offer pass. They were able to find me a top rated shipper, pick up was a breeze, delivery was ahead of schedule.
